Bottom lineFollowMeter and Lurke do different jobs. FollowMeter connects to your own Instagram account to analyze it — unfollowers, accounts not following back, ghost followers. Lurke tracks a public profile you choose, by username, without ever asking for an Instagram password, because it isn't your account. If you want analytics on your own account, FollowMeter's job fits; if you want to follow changes on a public profile over time, Lurke's job fits.
What to check
  • FollowMeter analyzes your own account (needs your Instagram login)
  • Lurke tracks a public profile by username (no password)
  • Pick by whose account you're actually watching

Where FollowMeter may suit you better

  • If your question is about your own account — who unfollowed you, who doesn't follow back, which followers look like ghost accounts — that is exactly what FollowMeter is built to analyze, and Lurke does not do this at all.
  • Its App Store listing shows a far larger install base than Lurke's: 24,027 ratings at a 4.06 average, and its Google Play listing separately shows over 157,000 reviews.
  • It is available on iPhone, iPad, and Android.

Where Lurke may suit you better

  • If your question is about someone else's public profile — who they started following, who unfollowed them — Lurke tracks that by username and never asks for your Instagram password, because it is not your account to connect.
  • Lurke's Pro prices are published on lurke.app before you install: $7.99 a week, $14.99 a month or $39.99 a year (US App Store, checked October 26, 2026). A Lifetime plan and occasional special offers can also appear in the app.
  • For your own account specifically, Lurke can instead use Instagram's own official data-export file, so you see your real follow dates rather than only connecting your account to a third-party app.

How we checked this

We compared Lurke and FollowMeter using followmeter.com, its App Store and Google Play listings, and its own subscriptions page, checked November 5, 2026. We did not test FollowMeter ourselves, and nothing here ranks or recommends one app over the other, since they answer different questions. For a wider, disclosed look at apps that track someone else's public profile the way Lurke does, see our comparison of tracker apps. If a fact above is wrong or has changed, contact Lurke and we'll review it.

Is FollowMeter safe to use?

We have not tested it. FollowMeter's own site asks you to “sign in securely” and connect your Instagram account, which is a different access model from an app that only reads public data by username. Before connecting any account to a third-party app, check its named publisher (FollowMeter's is Followmeter LLC, per its App Store listing) and its privacy policy. Lurke does not ask for your Instagram password for its own tracking feature, because it only needs a public username.

What are apps like FollowMeter?

Apps that analyze your own connected Instagram account for unfollowers, ghost followers, or who doesn't follow back back are doing the same job as FollowMeter, and any of them will also ask you to sign in with your own Instagram account; that sign-in step is part of the job, not specific to FollowMeter. Lurke is not in that category. If instead you want to watch someone else's public profile, see our wider comparison of tracker apps, which separates own-account apps from public-profile trackers like Lurke.

Is there a FollowMeter alternative that doesn't need my Instagram login?

Not for the same job. Analyzing your own account's unfollowers and ghost followers requires Instagram's own data about that account, which means connecting it, in FollowMeter or in any alternative built for that exact task. If your real goal is different — watching another public profile's follow activity over time — Lurke does that without your Instagram password, because it reads public data by username instead of connecting an account.

This comparison is published by Lurke. Facts about other apps are checked against their own public listings, not tested by Lurke, and can change after publication.
